INTERVIEW: KIMKAT

Kim Lee and Kat Nova are making waves internationally in the EDM scene. Known collectively as KimKat, the Los Angeles natives tour regularly around the world, and have separate histories as successful models, actors, and television stars. They’re featured on Kryoman’s new single, “RIDDIM BASS,” and are currently signed to dance music powerhouse Nervous Records. I was able to talk to Kat, who’s on break from her busy schedule, about her and Kim’s relationship, their history at the Scratch Academy, and what it’s like working as an international DJ’s.

INTERVIEW: SOUND REMEDY

Reaching numerous top 10 charts over the last few years, Sound Remedy has been one of the defining Gen Y EDM acts to break out of the dance music scene. Coming from a family of classically trained musicians, music has always been a passion for the artist, something that is shown through his remixes, original work, and production. His latest track, “Leaving You,” features fellow Monstercat comrade Savoy, alongside vocalist Jojee. I was able to interview Sound Remedy about his new track, his musical history, giving back to his fans, and the business of EDM music.

THOUGHTS: FROM HIP-HOP TO ROCKTOWN

HARRISONBURG, VA. — On a bright and unusually warm St. Patrick’s Day afternoon in downtown Harrisonburg, 22-year-old Ryan Slocum walks through the back door of a friend’s apartment to a dimly-lit flight of stairs leading to a bedroom hardly larger than the size of a modest utility closet. The room’s windows are illuminating a set of turntables and, sitting next to it, a collection of vinyl records neatly situated in a huddle of cardboard boxes.

INTERVIEW: HESTA PRYNN

After getting her start in the NYC-based rap group Northern State, Hesta Prynn has come a long way. Called a “musical encyclopedia” by Nylon Magazine, the artist is not only a curator but a lover of music as well. From opening for the likes of The Roots and Frank Ocean, she recently finished up her run at SXSW alongside Ryan Hemsworth, Just Blaze, and Hudson Mohawke.
